Ultrasound has proven to be an extremely useful tool in advanced veterinary medicine. At Loving Care Animal Hospital, ultrasonography allows us to see internal images that would otherwise be impossible. Unlike X-rays, ultrasonography does not use radiation. Instead, ultrasonography is entirely non-invasive and is a painless way to evaluate and diagnose a huge array of potential medical issues.
Ultrasound uses very high-frequency sound waves to create a moving digital image of the inside of your pet’s body. The ability of ultrasonography to look at organs on an internal scale while they are actively moving and working allows us to make diagnoses and understand medical problems that could not normally be explained by a stationary radiograph (X-ray).
Dr. Richard Dinon has obtained many hours of specialized training and received many certifications specifically in the use of ultrasound. This training has not only included the use of ultrasound as an imaging tool, but also diagnostic and interventional ultrasound techniques. These additional aspects of training allow Dr. Richard Dinon to perform biopsies and special tests not commonly available to the average veterinarian, and as a result, often alleviates the need for referral to a specialist or more invasive procedures like surgery.
